Carbon Kevlar Strap Project

DISCOVER WHAT MAKES US BETTER

Problem

Concrete was installed with no reinforcing steel inside it.   This resulted in severe cracking up to 10mm side.   Council required concrete to last approximately another 5 years before area could be rectified properly with new infrastructure.

Scope of Works

It was decided, in conjunction with engineers, that carbon Kevlar straps would be installed throughout the problem areas.   These straps are approximately 45 times stronger than concrete and were developed to repair concrete structures affected by earthquakes etc.

These straps were then installed at intervals of approximately 300mm along the cracks and epoxied in place and preventing any further movement and cracking in these areas.

As a result of the installation of the straps, the council now has an extended time line to replace the existing infrastructure.
